ohhh Steve, Rosie's a pretty girl, I hope she and Sally find a happy medium and you have squeeling piggies again. I love love GP's, I had Tinkerbell and Jessica when I was growing up. I never thought of a shelter having adoptable GP's/// going to have to go check locally now.
Good Luck

They haven't killed each other.
Sally continues to pick on Rosie but from what I have been reading, this is completly normal and can go on for a couple of weeks.
Rosie hasn't shown any threatening signals since the first day, and it's obvious that she has learned her place, but sally isn't finished yet I guess.
Neither Joey nor sally ever did anything that remotely resembled biting, but Rosie seems to like to nibble on people; which worried me with the baby, but I have found that, this too is a common thing and doesn't lead to actual biting.... it better not
The nibbling feels like they are mouthing you with their lips and then gently rubbing their teeth on your skin, its rather disconcerting considering the size of their teeth, but it doesn't hurt in anyway.
The baby still mentions Joey's name on a daily basis but I change the subject; I'm not sure of she is really looking for him or if she's just using the wrong name because she calls me mommy about a third of the time.
Sally threatening - on the right, rosie getting ready to run - left
Rosie takes a bite of carrot while Sally decided weather or not to take a bite out of Rosie.
The camera flash diverts their attention. Rosie tries to go unnoticed while sally poses for the camera as if to say, "aren't I so cute", as thoughts of ripping apart her cage mate subside.. for the moment.
I will be so thankful when the fighting stops. ;pl

I decided to make Rosie the Picture of the week.
I don't like using my own Pics as the pow, but lets face it, people havent been posting pet pics over here much lately, so what the heck.
Rosie is still being picked on but she has quickly become the kids favorite.
I haven't taught her to squeal at me like joey did, but she is very friendly nonetheless.
Sally used Joey as her go between to the people, her skittishness is making this newcomer overshadow her in the minds of the kids; especially since she hasn't excepted the new girl yet.

Rosie comes right over to you for treats, and seems to love it when you pet her head.
I'm still in the process of teaching the new girl where the treats are given out - in the loft.
Once the two girls are able to get along better, I'll be able to do more to get them trained, and maybe even get sally to be less skittish.

Oh Steve, I am so sorry. I just read this and even tho its been a bit ago, still sending hugs out to you for your Joey.
I just love the new girl, Rosie is exceptionally pretty. Hope they start getting along well and become fast friends SOON for you!

Thanks Jill, it's been a long eleven days but I think the worst of it is passed as far as the baby is concerned, and I think that the guinea pig girls might be showing signs that the fighting could let up...maybe. ;pl
It will be interesting to see what the baby has to say about the pigs the next time she sees my parents; she always goes on and on about the pigs to my parents; I wonder if she will include joey's name; funny thing is, I guess my parents really don't like the pigs ![]()

You should share the POW spotlight too! ![]()
I've never had pigs but we did have hamsters one time, and found out too late that they were opposite sexes, :ha had 9 little babies!!

A few minutes ago I went into the kitchen, with my back turned the baby climbed up on the couch to get into the cage, I came back in the room and told her to get down - she's not supposed to do that.
The baby then proceeded to have a melt down; I figured it was because I told her to get down and then she started crying, "I want joey, where's joey, I want joey back in there"
I gave her a cookie and she forgot about it.
I'm at a loss.
